Getting started
Is Capsly free?
Yes. The beta is completely free, no card required. You get 15 minutes of transcription per month and 10 uploads per day. Paid tiers arrive with the public launch.
What videos can I use?
MP4, WebM, or QuickTime files up to 5 minutes and 500 MB, picked from your device, never uploaded. Audio-only files such as MP3 or WAV work too, and export on a generated background. Short-form vertical or horizontal: the canvas adapts to your footage.
Can I pick videos from Google Photos or cloud libraries?
Unreliably. Cloud libraries sometimes hand the browser files that change or vanish mid-session, which fails loudly or not at all. Download the video to your device first; local files just work.
Do I need an account?
Yes. Transcription, editing, and export need a free account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk.
Which browser do I need?
Any modern browser for editing. Export renders locally via hardware H.264, so a recent desktop Chromium gives the best results.
Privacy and data
Where does my video go?
Nowhere. Your video never leaves your device. Press Transcribe and only the audio goes once for speech-to-text, then it is deleted. Captions and styling are saved locally; when you come back, re-picking the file reconnects the picture. Skipping transcription means zero uploads.
What happens to the audio?
Only the extracted audio uploads, to temporary storage, purely for transcription. It is deleted right after, success or failure. The full story is on the privacy page.
Do you train AI on my content?
No. Capsly does not use your video or audio to train models, and no copy of the audio is kept after transcription.
What do you keep in my account?
Your account id, name, email, usage counters, and any caption presets you save. Captions themselves stay in your browser.
How do I delete my data?
Clear site data in your browser for local captions and styles. Email support@capsly.site to delete your account records.
Editing and languages
How is transcription metered?
Each transcribe spends your monthly minutes based on the measured audio length, never our estimate or your claim. A live meter in the app shows exactly where you stand.
How do I fix a wrong word?
Double-click or double-tap the caption and type, or open Edit all words for the whole document. The word timings adjust automatically, with no re-transcribe.
What happens to timing when I add or remove words?
A one-word change keeps its original time. An added word takes the gap between its neighbors. A deleted word leaves the others untouched. A full rewrite spreads evenly across the block, and the block's in and out points stay put.
Can I retranscribe if the transcript is very wrong?
Yes. It runs transcription again and spends your monthly minutes again. If only a few words are wrong, editing is faster.
Can I import existing subtitles?
Yes: SRT, VTT, or a Capsly .json file. A .json restores the full style and per-caption overrides.
Can I control how captions look?
Yes. Type, size, colors, active-word highlight, placement, and saved presets. The caption design guide covers the decisions.
What is transliteration, and does it translate?
Transliteration changes the script, not the words. Hindi Devanagari becomes roman Hinglish, Hangul becomes roman, Hanzi becomes pinyin, and more. Nothing is translated.
Does Capsly support Hindi and other Indian languages?
Yes. Hindi is in the language picker, and Transliterate turns Devanagari captions into roman Hinglish. Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Korean, Chinese, and Arabic (beta) are also supported.
Export
What do I get on export?
A rendered MP4 with your styled captions burned in, plus SRT and VTT sidecar files and a Capsly .json project file. The preview uses the same render engine, so the export matches pixel for pixel. No watermark.
Does Capsly post to YouTube or TikTok for me?
No. Capsly exports files; you upload them to each platform yourself. You keep the rights to your footage and captions.
